Little Village High School
Project Description: Moisture-resistant K-Flex Duct® Liner was the insulation choice for ducts in Little Village High School in Chicago, IL. Mechanical Contractor Climatemp was awarded the project that required 40,000 s.f. of lining. V. J. Comforte, VP of Climatemp, was familiar with polymer foam insulation, and recognized the performance benefits associated with a closed-cell material.
Comforte stated, “I wanted to work with K-Flex USA because this product is the wave of the future and that is exactly where Climatemp wants to be”. Three months later, Climatemp was awarded a second project, Tarkington Elementary School. The school features 30,000 s.f. of K-Flex Duct® Liner and holds the distinction of being the first LEED certified school in Chicago.
During this time, The Chicago Standard, a new set of construction standards for public buildings in Chicago, was developed to guide the design, construction and renovation of municipal facilities in a manner that provides healthier indoor environments, reduces operating costs and conserves energy and resources. The Chicago Standard takes advantage of new building technologies and practices to enhance the well-being and quality of life for all building occupants.
Working with WMA Engineers of Chicago, K-Flex Duct® Liner was selected as the new standard for the City of Chicago school system.

As soon as the Climatemp team was introduced to K-Flex Duct® Liner's superior flexibility, Comforte said “that’s the product we have to have.”
K-Flex Duct® Liner with PSA, available in 50 or 100 ft length rolls up to 60 inches wide, features a factory-applied pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) backing, greatly reducing the need for contact adhesives. “The PSA was a life saver compared to contact adhesive, not only for the labor savings, but especially from a safety and insurance standpoint”, Comforte said. Climatemp chose to use 56-3/8 inch wide product with PSA in 50 foot rolls for most of this project.
